Crossing the Jordan

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. (Joshua 2:1)

Rahab signifies the people of the world who will assist the saints of the last days during great tribulation, thus saving themselves and their loved ones. Those who help the Lord's brothers, His witnesses, will enter eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: (Matthew 25:34)

The Israelites followed the Ark of the Covenant across the Jordan. The Jordan River represents death to the old adamic nature and the land of Canaan speaks of eternal resurrection life in the Kingdom of God. The Israelites followed 2,000 cubits behind the Ark, the number of cubits indicating the approximate number of years of the Church Age.

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore. (Joshua 3:4)

God has warned us to listen to Him carefully in the present hour. We are in a time of fundamental change in the Kingdom of God. The Church has not passed this way before.

The Jordan River parted, even though it was at flood level. The priests stood with the Ark in the middle of Jordan until Israel passed over to the west bank. So it is that our Lord Jesus is standing in the middle of death until His elect pass safely into eternal life.

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan. (Joshua 3:17)

The Israelites crossing the Jordan River and preparing to attack Jericho represent the saints of Christ entering their land of promise. The people of Jericho typify Satan and his demons who are inhabiting the inheritance promised to the Lord's elect. The placing of the twelve stones on the west bank of the Jordan and the twelve stones on the river bed of the Jordan point to the mainspring of the new covenant—our death with the Lord Jesus on the cross (the stones left in the Jordan) and our resurrection with the Lord Jesus (the stones placed on the west bank of the Jordan as a memorial).

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day. (Joshua 4:9)

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the Lord spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. (Joshua 4:8)

To be continued.
