The Daily Word of Righteousness

Two Beginnings, #16

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:1,2)

The first and second chapters of the Book of Hebrews have much to reveal concerning the role of Christ, and our role as His younger brothers.

God the Father has spoken to us by His Son.

God has appointed His Son Heir of all things.

God made the worlds, the spiritual worlds and the physical worlds, by His Son, just as we have stated in previous pages.

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

Christ is the Brightness of the Father's Glory. He is not the Father, He is the Brightness of the Father's Glory.

Christ is the express Image of the Person of the Father. Christ is not the Father or another name for the Father, Christ is the express Image of the Father.

According to our conventional use of terms, something that is the image of something else is not that something else. If a statue is sculpted in the image of a famous person, the statue does not become the person but is the image of the person. If the statue could come to life we might say that the living statue was the exact image of the famous person. But it never would be the person!

Christ upholds all things by the word of His power. Christ is so great that when we declare He is not the Father we are not subtracting from His greatness. It is like comparing a trillion to the trillionth power with a trillion to the trillion to the trillionth power. Both numbers are so large that comparing them has no practical application. We can say that one is greater than the other, but both are so large they are unimaginable. So it is with Christ and the Father.

Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (John 14:28)

Christ by Himself purged our sin by His own blood on the cross of Calvary.

Christ is seated on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Who is the Majesty on High? God!

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. (Hebrews 1:4)

Inasmuch as the Logos created the angels it seems unnecessary to state that He is greater than the angels by inheriting a better name than they. It would appear that the Logos already is greater by virtue of having created the angels.

It may be true, however, that after being created, the angels began to hold themselves above the Logos. We see this behavior among people when the student begins to despise his teacher feeling he has surpassed his teacher.

Perhaps the most inappropriate event of history occurred when Satan, the created being, stood before his Creator and invited his Creator to worship him. The impudent, insolent, presumptuous actions of the wicked are amazing—and amazingly effective in gaining for them what they desire. The true saints tend to be humble and sheep-like and are easily trodden down by the wicked.

To be continued.
